Decoflora's Favourite Artificial Flowers

Many of our staff will tell you they had no idea about flower names and their seasons when they started working for Decoflora but a passion for beautiful flowers has grown with every working day! I wish I could share with you all the excitement when new stock arrives - 'Ooh that's my new favourite' or 'that colour would be perfect in my hall, bedroom, bathroom .....' are regular exclamations and this got me round to thinking 'What are everyone's favourite artificial flowers?

Of course, they were all reluctant when I explained my proposition for this blog article (only because I asked for photos of everyone) but I hope you all agree that everyone looks very happy to have taken part and I can assure you that their reticence melted away when we started comparing our stories and reasons for our choices!

Flowers can conjure many memories and we often associate them with happy moments or people dear to us. I personally have an arrangement of my favourite artificial flowers in my home as a constant reminder of happy holidays with my family ♥

I hope you enjoy this introduction to our team. I always enjoy enjoy 'putting a face to a name' and hope you do too!

Kirsty - Assistant Manager

When I asked Kirsty to choose her favourite artificial flower she was quick to give me a list of about 20 very different flowers but had no problem whittling her list down to just 2 when I asked her to explain her reasons for her choice!

It turns out Kirsty's number one choice was sweet peas in shades of purple because her beloved Nana used to pick them for her from her garden! Now every time she picks a purple sweet pea for a customer's order she remembers her Nana with a smile. Her second choice was a thistle, again with thoughts of her Nana who was Scottish.

Vicky - Sales Assistant

There were no surprises when I asked Vicky to choose her favourite artificial flowers! Vicky is sunflower daft! Her only problem was deciding which one of our selection of artificial sunflowers to choose. In the end she chose the biggest and brightest saying she didn't know why she's always loved sunflowers, adding 'they just make me smile' and showed me a quote on her Instagram feed that says 'a single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows'. I can't think of a better reason for liking a flower, can you? I have often heard people saying 'A smile is the prettiest thing you can wear' and if a flower has the ability to make you smile then that's a great favourites choice!

Kayleigh - Admin/Sales

Kayleigh chose daisies as her favourite artificial flowers. She loved making daisy chains as a little girl and still does it now! I bet her two young sons will be delighted in years to come when they are reminded of the photos she showed us all today of them wearing bracelets she'd made them with daises. Won't they be embarrassed at their 18th birthday parties. Good job it's a long time away!

BTW they are my favourite too and for exactly the same reason! I spent many happy summers making daisy chains with my grandad in his garden never thinking for one minute that some day flowers would be my business ♥

Rod - Warehouse Manager

We all smiled when we heard Rod's reason for choosing peonies as his favourite artificial flowers :) 'I love their fragrance' he said. Think Rod might have forgotten for a moment that our flowers aren't real but who can blame him when they look as good as the selection he chose? Once we'd finished giggling at his expense he went on to explain that he loves the range of colours that artificial peonies are available in and that artifcial peonies are a great choice for weddings as the window of opportunity to use fresh peonies is so short. This is often the case for many fresh flowers and we are finding that brides are choosing artificial flowers as their favourite flower isn't available at the time of year they getting married, especially now that the quality af artificial flowers is so good!

Geoff - Distribution (retired March 2020)

Geoff's decision was any easy one! 'It's got to be sweet peas. They were your mum's favourite flower' he said with a wistful look.  Many of you won't realise but Decoflora was owned by my parents, Pat and Geoff, until my mum sadly passed away unexpectedly in September 2009. She had been at the helm for 17 years, building the business up from a small lock up shop to a successful ecommerce website. I had been working as an accountant for 23 years and was having a bit of mid life crisis, questioning whether I wanted to spend the rest of my working life doing the same job, and decided to buy the business from dad and try to make my own stamp on it.  Mum was a keen gardener and always had sweet peas growing in the summer. They were one of the few flowers she ever cut and brought inside, doing so because she knew this would encourage more flowers to bloom.  She would have loved the sweet peas dad is holding in the picture as they look so natural!  And it's great that dad and I still feel her around us as we work side by side in the business she devoted so many years to

.........and finally Helen - Director

I've chosen our Artificial Birds of Paradise Medium - B001a as my first choice. These are fabulous quality artificial flowers that are hand painted to look as realistic as possible and remind me of my first holiday abroad with my parents to the island of Madeira, aged 16. Birds of paradise seemed to grow in the most unlikely of places and I had never seen any flower that looked so exquisite in my life! I was so fascinated by them that mum arranged for a box to be shipped home to Cumbria so we could enjoy them a while longer. No need to buy real birds of paradise anymore though. These look so good that they often confuse visitors to our home. I decided to pull to pull rank and allow myself a second choice because I couldn't chose a favourite artifcial flower without mentioning our exquisite Real Touch Rose Ivory - R057! The attention to detail in the colouring of these roses is exceptional! The outer guard petals are hand painted to mimic the colouration of real ivory roses and the petals feel like the real deal too! They look stunning displayed simply as a large bunch in a nice vase with some artificial leaves.

We would love to hear about your favourite artificial flowers! Please tell us all about them in the comments below :)
